Free Computer Courses for Vulnerable Children

Orphans Foundation Fund is pleased to be providing free computer training courses for vulnerable children in the community. We have been working through the community development office of city of Arusha to identify those children who may benefit from these courses. We recently started this program and have children participating from six wards; Kalolen, Levolosi, Sekei, Elerai, Unga Limited and Sakina. Every four months we hope to have 60 students graduating from the computer training courses. Our target is to reach 180 vulnerable children by December of this year.

Powering the Pediatric Unit of Mt. Meru Hospital

The pediatric unit of Mt. Meru hospital has temporarily moved to the Levolosi clinic. Unfortunately it is off the hospital grid for electricity. Without electricity and lights giving proper care to the patients was difficult. Orphans Foundation Fund was able to purchase the necessary wiring and connectors to connect to a nearby generator. Now all the children in the pediatric unit can be cared for, any electrical medical equipment can be operated when needed, and the nurses can see their patients with proper lighting.

Students in Cooking Course

Last week 21 young adults graduated from the Orphans Foundation Fund cooking course funded by Cord Aid. At the ceremony many of last terms students were awarded a certificate during the ceremony at Help to self Help vocational center. An additional 29 young adults studied tailoring and mechanics. They will graduate in January of next year.

Wheelchair donation

A good samaritan donated a wheelchair to Orphans Foundation Fund and it was then given to this needy man. The donor now wants to give to more people, so we are looking for more with disabilities to help.

Computer Empowerment Donation

Six nurses at Mt Meru Hospital and three students have each been given a notebook computer by Orphans Foundation Fund. This OFF sustainable computer program targets working partners, vulnerable children and other less privileged group in the community with computer equipment and training.

Computer Training Courses

Orphans Foundation Fund now has a fully equipped and staffed Computer training center which offers courses in the following:

Introduction Computer course: Introduction to Windows, Intro to Microsoft Word, Intro to Microsoft Excel, Intro to Microsoft Access, Internet and email. The course duration is 7 weeks for 120,000/= or 24,000/= per segment

Advanced Computer course: Advanced Microsoft Word, Advance Microsoft Excel, Advanced Microsoft Access, Microsoft Powerpoint. The course duration is 7 weeks 140,000 /= or 35,000/= per segment

Web and Graphic design: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Dreamweaver. The course duration is 4 weeks 240,000/= or 60,000/= per segment

Miss Vodacom Tanzania 2011!

We were very happy to have the 2011 Miss Vodacom Tanzania come to visit Orphans Foundation Found. They generously brought sewing materials for the tailoring students who are a part of the Street children project. Thank you blessing our students with these supplies and the pleasure of you gracing our meeting with your beautiful presence.

Visiting Jane’s Orphans Center

The staff of Orphans Foundation Fund along with Senator Jackie Winters and O.F.F. Founder Dr. James Lace made a special visit to Jane’s Orphan Center in Ngaramtoni Arusha Tanzania. Jane’s Orphan Center has been a special assistance project of O.F.F. with regard to land, donations, and legal mediation. We are so pleased that the center is running well and under the guidance of one so caring and committed to the children.

Computer Classes Begin!

The Orphans Foundation Fund computers classes are now in full session! All of the kids in the Street Children project are the first to benefit from the computers and instruction of the new teacher at Orphans Foundation Fund. Soon we will open up classes to the general public to be both an educational service to the community and bring in much needed funds to continue the work of helping orphans and vulnerable children in Tanzania. Many thanks to Dr. James Lace, Senator Jackie Winters, and the many others who contributed to make this school possible.
